Perspective, it’s a word that is easier said than done. After pulling off their helmets in an exhibition loss to Park City, Utah, the Braves will have just five days to put together a bit of perspective before taking on Snake River on the road this Friday.

It was a game filled with miscues as inexperience trumped talent on many plays. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, it was easy to see why the Miners are picked to return deep into the playoffs for Region 10. In fact, watching both Park City and Logan, it may indeed turn out to be a 3A Utah title game preview. Scott Neuenschwander, who was far less of a factor in Park City’s 22-10 win over Hillcrest the week before, was a magician against the Braves, rushing for over 100 yards and throwing for three scores as he looked like a graduate of Hogwarts on several plays.

Now in his third year, SVHS head coach Dale Anderson has made it known that the final score doesn’t affect his play calling in a game such as this. There are things that the staff if more interested in seeing rather than saving face on the scoreboard.

It’s hard to argue with the results at this point. While Anderson is now 0-3 in opening games, the Braves are 2-0 in conference titles, with the quest for number three beginning on September 7 against the despised Jackson Broncs.

Star Valley wasn’t the only Wyoming team sent home in short order, the Logan junior varsity roughed up Mountain View, 39-12 and Logan’s varsity clobbered defending 5A champion Gillette, 36-6.

Up next for the Braves will be a rematch with the Snake River Panthers who shut out Star Valley to begin last season, 27-0. Time will tell if the extra game with the Miners will pay short-term dividends.
