The Braves and Lady Braves are getting some needed experience at the Riverton Country Club this weekend.
The Lady Braves are sitting in 5th place after the first day of the tourney, with sophomore Kelsea Gardner leading the way with a 103. Gardner, who won the 3A individual title as a freshman a year ago is joined by 2006 all-stater Shanae Jackson, who finished day one with a total of 107. Junior Kirsten Robbins rounds out the varsity scores with a 135 after skipping her sophomore season.
The Braves are currently sitting in 6th place, led by 2006 all-conference selection Charlie Stibor and his 81. Sophomore Marshall Mendenhall continues to impress with an 87, while Skylar Heiner was hot on his heels with an 88 of his own.
Rounding out the scores for the Braves was Chantry Hanson with an 89, Allen Simpson with a 91, Pace Owens with a 94, Mitch Allred with a 97 and Brock Gardner with a 105.
“We’re finding out right where we need to be for the rest of the season,” stated Head Coach Bill Hoopes in a Friday morning interview with the Independent. “The top individual score was a 67 from [Clinton Boutelle] Cody, so we know we need to step it up a level.”
Cody leads the pack after day one, with Green River and Jackson rounding out the top three.
The SVHS golfers will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, traveling to Powell for the Panther Invitational.
