Wolfley moves to defense for defending MWC champion Cougars

For the past 18 months, SVHS graduate and former Wyoming Super-25 selection Rick Wolfley has been fighting with ten other 300 pounders for the right to play on the BYU Cougar offensive line.

“I was having a hard time getting into the rotation,” replied Wolfley in an intervew with the Independent. “I think we have one of the best [offensive lines] in the country, so it isn’t easy. When Coach [Defensive Line Coach Kaufusi] came up to me and asked if I would help on the defensive line, I said sure. It’s really been a much more natural fit for me so far.”

The move to noseguard comes on the heels of an injury to sophomore Russell Tialavea, who was expected to start for BYU as they look to extend a ten game winning streak on September 2 as they host Arizona. Wolfley’s wrestling background where he was a two-time undefeated heavyweight champion has helped him in his new position, as has the fact that he played on the defensive line for the Braves, including the 2005 State Runner-Up squad.

As of this article, Wolfley is either expected to start against the Wildcats in Provo, or see significant time. As the opponents for the 340 pound over his high school career will tell you, it’s not a good idea to get in his way.

It will be fun to watch a Star Valley player on the BYU team. We wish him lots of luck.
