The Star Valley Arts Council will host an Art Harvest at the Thayne Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 29. The even will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature a brunch, artist quick draw, pie auction and pie sale.
The event menu will feature fruit and breakfast food items as well as juice and coffee. Community members are invited to come out and enjoy some good food while they watch local and regional artists work.
Artists who choose to take part in the event will have a “quick draw” from 10-11 a.m. The artists will work in the medium that they choose and create what they wish. The project must be completed within one hour.
At 11 a.m. the art pieces created with be auctioned off, along with some homemade, Carolyn Walton cream pies. The money raised by the event will go toward supporting the arts in Star Valley.
Arts Council members are also working to make 80 homemade apple pies for the event. The apple pies will be “take and bake” and will be available for purchase for $13 each or two pies for $25.
Children are welcome to attend and participate in a children’s art corner. Supplies will be provided by the art council.
“We are supporting local artists through this promotion, and as a result, we’re promoting the pursuit of arts for everyone in Star Valley,” said Arts Council President Leslie Shinaver. “Geographically, we’re isolated from art walks and gallery showings in other communities, but Star Valley is home to talented artists creating with all kinds of mediums, and frankly, we’d like to see more residents engage in creative pursuits.”
According to Shinaver, the Star Valley Art Guild and Arts Council are two organizations “that encourage individual development in the arts.”
“Their members understand how much art can contribute to self and world understanding, as well as personal success and happiness,” said Shinaver.
“Several art guild members will be participating the in the “quick draw.”
The event is free of charge and open to the public.
