Aspirin and Defibrillator Pads: Week 3 Recap from the Dahl E. Llama
By Dahl E. Llama on Sep 17, 2007 in Sports
Caution: Cheering for the Star Valley Braves may be hazardous to your health.
It genuinely felt like a playoff game in Cody over the weekend, and regardless of any account of the game (including mine), it just won’t do the effort justice. The Braves played like two completely different teams in the first and second halves, and I must say, I was very giddy about the second half team. I hope to see that one several more times this season.
That being said, Star Valley wasn’t the only team who made a statement over the weekend. The Jackson Broncs knocked off defending champion Powell on the road, putting them firmly in the front seat for a Western Conference title. In the East, Buffalo showed some toughness outlasting 3A Glenrock who may very well be hoisting the 3A trophy this season. One thing is certain for the Braves for the rest of the season. If they bring their second-half intensity, anything is possible.
The Dahl E. Llama had a good weekend in terms of percentages, even if I am a little embarassed at mixing up some of my 4A East picks. So, in trade, I won’t count my Star Valley prediction over Cody. So far in 2007, the Llama is 16-4 or (.800) in Class 4A
Up next for the Braves is a rematch with Marsh Valley, who has defeated Star Valley in the last three years. Perhaps this is the time Coach Anderson and the Braves break the Idaho jinx. Star Valley has not defeated an Idaho school since 2002 (Bear Lake)
Jackson def. Powell 14-6 (Correct)
Worland def. Lander 21-6 (Correct)
Buffalo def. Glenrock 14-6 (Correct)
Laramie def. Rawlins 60-12 (Yikes, how about playing some sophs Plainsmen? Correct)
What stood out? How about Jackson winning in a defensive battle on the road. Worland having to put away Lander in the fourth quarter, and Cody not converting a single PAT. Who says special teams can’t affect the game?
Another thing I noticed? At one point, the Broncs were 4/5 for 94 yards and a touchdown. For the next two and 3/4 quarters, the Braves held them to just 16 yards on 2/8 through the air. Sure the secondary gave up the last ditch touchdown, but they also stuffed the two-point conversion, not to mention the INT returned for the score from Kurtis Suloff, who was in on both plays.
On the downer side, The Braves may be without standout Conner Hunsaker who went down at the end of a 38-yard run in Cody. I have faith in the pool of running backs, I just feel bad for any player who’s worked as hard as he has and now is forced to watch. Hunsaker finished the game with 97 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, not to mention his defensive contributions. Here’s to hoping he’s a quick healer.
Got a question? An opinion? Do you wonder what type of medication I’m taking? Be sure to let me know with the comment section.

Thanks Llama for your contribution to SV athletics in always keeping a positive tone in your articles. I for one appreciate how much effort you put into your broadcasts and articles. I hope the Braves continue what they started in Cody. They have the potential to make things turn out like the ‘95-’96 season. Let’s all stay positive and cheer them on to a great season.
Llama,
Please remember that there are players that have the same number on their jersys. When you use their name, make sure you are talking about the right player. This will keep you on your toes!

You’re right on that one, I’m solving that issue right now for number 64, who is both Shane Titensor and Chase Crook. I’ll have that figured out by this week’s game against Marsh Valley. Let me know if there are any more that I may not be aware of. As for keeping me on my toes, I’m a big guy, I’m not sure they can handle it.
Hey Llama, how ’bout some more videos. I like videos. Most people like videos. Kidding. Do whatever you want.
