County library system plans “big read” for residents

Wyoming is one of more than 100 communities to take part this fall in the Big Read, a program that encourages an entire community to read and discuss the same book. The book that has been chosen for reading and discussion is My Antonia written by Willa Cather.
Lincoln County libraries join 12 other counties as participants in the Big Read. The event kicked off  Monday, Sept. 17 with a limited number of copies of My Antonia  at each of the five county libraries, Kemmerer, Cokeville, LaBarge, Afton and Thayne.
Readers are now encouraged to “catch, read and release” the book, passing it along to other readers or returning copies to the library so they can be read by other people.
Everyone who reads the book is invited to participate in a local book discussion group.  The Star Valley and Thayne branch libraries will be hosting   book discussions featuring My Antonia on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
For further information, call the Afton library at 885-3158 or the Thayne library at 883-7323.
