State historical society recognizes SV residents

The Wyoming State Historical Society honored Star Valley residents as recipients of awards presented at the Society’s 54th annual meeting held in Wheatland.
Jeremy Wight of Bedford was recognized in the Publications Category for his book titled “The Jackson Hole Conspiracy.”  The committee chose this book because it tells a story that “needed to be told about a little known incident in 1895 Wyoming. It is an important examination of the treatment of Indians and their land rights at the time.”
Bronwyn Challis, a  ninth grade student at SVHS, received second place in the Young Historian Awards category for an essay telling of the school bombing which occurred in Cokeville in 1986.  Challis “gathered considerable research to help give an accurate account of the incident that continues to have an effect on the residents of the area,” said the committee.
Individuals were nominated by the Star Valley Chapter of the Wyoming State Historical Society.  Each year the Society recognizes citizens and groups statewide for their contributions to Wyoming’s history.
