Local students travel with group to Europe.
The Western Wyoming People to People Student Ambassador group recently returned from a 20-day ambassadorial studies tour to Europe. The group, made up of 27 strdents from the Western Wyoming area, visited England, France and Italy.
Local students who participated in the trip were Kaitlyn Chadwick, Jessica  Cole, Simantha Stewart, Kailee Wagner. Laura Walton and Katie Woods. Maud Jackson, an educator from Holdaway Elementary, traveled with the group as well.
The students took part in an environmental service project in a national preserve near Pisa, Italy, attended an educational meeting with a member of the British parliament, spent three days with a family in Southern France and repelled off of a 1,000 year old castle. They also had the opportunity to be part of a flag raising ceremony on the beaches of Normandy.
The students also had the chance to visit the coliseum of Rome, where over 50,000 spectators would have watched the gladiators combat. They toured the Duomo Cathedral, saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, went to Notre Dame Cathedral and rode to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
The group also visited the Louve to see the Mona Lisa. In London they examined the Royal Crown Jewels and rode the London Eye, the largest ferris wheel in the world.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the People to People organization during his presidency in 1956. He believed that ordinary citizens of different nations could make a difference where governments could not.
The People to People Student Ambassador programs are based in Spokane, Wash., and have been coordinating educational travel for more than 50 years.
