Afton community residents and town officials were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Brad Morehouse Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13. Word spread quickly throughout the small community where Morehouse’s influence has been felt over the last two years as he helped move plans forward with the expansion of the municipal golf course and local airport.
Afton Mayor Alan Stauffer commended Morehouse for his contributions to the community.
“Brad Morehouse was a remarkable man, extraordinary citizen, and good friend to the Town of Afton,” said Mayor Stauffer. “Because of Brad’s generosity and vision, Afton has been put “on the map.”
The mayor continued, “The town is grateful for his generous donation of the new golf course and Brad donated the land for the east-west taxiway to the Afton/Lincoln County Joint Powers Board.”
The mayor said Morehouse was always thinking of creating more employment opportunities. “He had plans to help the town develop more full-time jobs and bring substantial business to Afton,” said Stauffer.
The mayor said Morehouse’s work will be remembered and honored. “The town plans to construct an appropriate memorial in honor of his memory on the new golf course,” he said.
Stauffer concluded that the projects started by Morehouse will continue and be completed in Afton.
The Town is confident that the unfinished work at the golf course will be completed and the course will be a wonderful asset to our community.”
