Week 3 Wyoming 4A predictions from the Dahl E. Llama

Well, certainly things have been better for the Braves than they currently sit, but here are some positives from last week.

One - The defense gave up 25 points and just 195 yards to an explosive team that had SIX count ‘em, SIX posessions inside the Star Valley 45 yard line in the second half alone.

Two - This isn’t a team that’s shown us their best, not by a long shot. In fact, they would probably argue they haven’t put together four good quarters yet. This week’s matchup in Cody is a big indicator.

Three - The potential for an offensive awakening is definitely there. One can’t get away with using the word potential in October. In the middle of September, yeah, we can use it.

It’s a vital week for most teams in Wyoming 4A football, huge conference games in the West will go a long way towards determining the season’s outcome for a lot of schools. In the East, Torrington’s air attack will see if it can penetrate Wheatland’s defense.

Jackson Broncs (2-0) @ Powell Panthers (2-0) - This is the game of the week. The defending champs get to play their first home game of the season, and it will be against a Jackson squad that looks very disciplined and agressive. Powell will likely try and use their strong passing game which has looked pretty good. The issue I see with this game is that Jackson’s secondary is also their group of receivers so any errant passes may be picked off.  I may regret it, but here it goes.  Llama says - Broncs - 27-21.

Worland (2-0) @ Lander (0-2) - This is another game that will draw a lot of interest from the Western Conference.  Can Worland’s running game get going against Lander?  Is Lander’s strong showing against Cody a fluke?  Are the Tigers ready to end their losing streak which now stands at eleven?  I think the Warriors get on the board early, boosting them to a close win.  Llama says - Warriors - 18-14.

Glenrock (2-0) @ Buffalo (2-0) - The Bison are flat out tough at home, that’s what is going for the Buffalo faithful this week.  Add to that a strong running game, and I feel the 4A squad can take a few possessions away from the Herders over the course of the game.  The Bison win, but it’s going to be a battle in my opinion.  Llama says - Bison - 24-21.

Douglas (1-1) @ Chadron, NE - Chadron trounced Torrington to open the season, and should be a very tough test for the Bearcats.  At this point, Douglas has shown to be pretty strong, with some work to do defensively.  That being said, I think this is a shootout won by the visitors.  Llama says - Bearcats - 34-31.

Rawlins (0-2) @ Laramie (1-1) - It’s been up and down for the Plainsmen so far.  They dropped 30+ to win their opener, only to get blasted by Sheridan 33-0 in week two.  The Outlaws haven’t shown they can score many points over the last two seasons and so far this year, so I really don’t have  choice.  Llama says - Plainsmen - 24-0.

Torrington (0-2) @ Wheatland (1-1) - I suspect this will be a fun game to watch.  The Blazers have the potential for offense, while the Bulldogs look to have a pretty good defense.  The rub will be when the opposing units are on the field.  I think this is the week that a sluggish Wheatland offense scores a few touchdowns.  Llama says - Bulldogs - 21-7.

Well, there you have it.  If you’re wondering why the Braves aren’t in this particular section, it’s because I realize I can’t pick them objectively.  If you really need to know, then I think they’re going to win every week.  How about Star Valley over Cody, 21-17.

Feel free to leave comments if you agree, disagree or wonder what type of medication I’m on.  Please remember that personal attacks against anyone by name will not be tolerated or posted.  Keep the gloves up and keep it clean.

I agree with all your picks except the Jackson @ Powell game. Granted Jackson is a much improved team this year, however not taking anything away from Jackson’s win over our Braves but we used all six bullets in our six shooter before we even got it out of our holster and I hope our feet have healed up before our game with Cody. Jackson has a good team this year and I expect them to be in every game they play. However I think Powell will prove to be a step or two ahead of Jackson and will take the win 27-17.

As far as our Braves go I do believe that our offence will improve. They looked very good on the long drive for a T.D. in the second quarter using a solid running game with a pass mixed in here and there. The second half started on a sour note and from that point on I believe we panicked and started going for the long ball. It didn’t work out and things snowballed from there. In my opinion we are not a long ball team this year and need to just play some good old fashioned smash mouth football. We need to play for field position and stop turning the ball over to the opposing offence inside our own 30 yard line. Well enough arm chair coaching, I greatly respect and appreciate the coaches that we have and know that they do there best and only have the best intrests of the athletes in mind. We need to support there efforts and encorage the kids to keep there chins up and push forward. In the end the man who wins is the man who thinks he can!!!
