A New Season: The Dahl E. Llama recaps week 8
By Dahl E. Llama on Oct 23, 2007 in Sports
I won’t lie, it wasn’t the prettiest game ever played in Star Valley colors over the weekend.
A lot of credit goes to Worland in the intensity department, their defense made stops when they had to and their running game challenged Star Valley throughout the game.
My Farmer Awards for the week go to the following: First, to Jackson. I’ve been accused of being a Jackson sympathizer lately, but the bottom line is, when a program with a .393 lifetime winning percentage goes undefeated? That’s a special season. Their ability to outlast what is rapidly becoming a more dangerous team in the Cody Broncs gave them their first conference title in a while. I think the rematch is going to be a tough game once again this weekend.
Other Farmer Awards go to Buffalo for their undefeated season and to Douglas for not only knocking Torrington out of the playoffs, but for managing to earn the East number two seed. A month ago, it wasn’t a lock that the Bearcats were even making the playoffs.
Well, it was an ugly weekend personally, but the Llama went 4-2 overall, bringing my overall numbers to 37-16 or (.700) for the regular season. For you conspiracy theorists out there, I rounded up from .698.
Jackson def. Cody - 37-25 - (Correct, I think Jackson has drawn one of the best #8 seeds in recent memory and if they don’t execute like they did this last week, there could be some disappointment in Teton County)
Riverton def. Lander - 19-8 - (Wrong, The streak continues into next season for the Tigers at 17 games. Riverton should at least send flowers to Lander, they represent their wins over the last two years.)
Buffalo def. Powell - 21-0 - (Correct, Things will only get tougher for the Panthers this week in a rematch away from home. Can they do it? Of course, but it would be considered a mighty upset)
Worland def. Star Valley - 14-6- (Wrong, The weather wont be nearly as warm in Lincoln County as it was in Washakie County this weekend. Will it be a factor?)
Douglas def. Torrington -41-21 - (Correct, The Bearcats now host Wheatland in what looks like a grudge match)
Wheatland def. Rawlins - 23-0 - (Correct, The Bulldogs have a better defense than Douglas in my opinion, but can they score enough points if Douglas jumps out early?)
Well, my condolences to Lander, Rawlins and Torrington who have started focusing on Basketball and Wrestling. Don’t feel too bad. Ironically, in sports the only difference between winless teams and teams that make the playoffs is just one week in many cases. Look for the first round playoff predictions later this week and remember Star Valley fans, Worland isn’t happy about the trip, and this is your home field. YOU MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE! Cowbells and Carhardts all around on a cold Star Valley night. See you there.
