Two men were injured when their single engine aircraft crashed while landing Wednesday morning at the Afton airport.

At press time names were not formally released as National Transportation Safety Board representatives were in route to investigate the crash. Afton Police, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Star Valley EMTs and Afton Fire Department responded to the accident scene on the south end of the airport.

While a formal report has to be compiled by the NTSB, the plane appeared to have wheel break off while landing from the south. The aircraft, with one wheel missing, went onto the grass strip on the east side of the runway and flipped over, causing extensive damage to the aircraft. The pilot and passenger were able to climb out of the inverted aircraft.
The crash scene will be secured until NTSB representatives review the scene. A formal report will be compiled and released by the NTSB.
