As the temperatures drop to below freezing, residents from across the valley gather for the Parade of Lights over the Thanksgiving holiday in Afton. This year was extra special as the community officially welcomed back the 1041st Wyoming National Guard Unit after their year-long deployment in Iraq.

SVMC Auxiliary hosted the Star Valley Festival of Trees at the Lincoln County Fair Grounds. All proceeds go to benefit the hospital. A hope chest with all new items, will be actioned off with the proceeds to benefit the mammography department.

Weatherby Foundation International donated a 2-by-7 power scope for two .243 caliber rifles to help educate hunters in Wyoming. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department sponsored camps, workshops and hunter education classes will handle the two rifles with new scopes. On November 16 a new wolf management plan was adopted for Wyoming. If the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service accepts this plan that it will lead to the removal of wolves from the Endangered Species Act in the Northern Rocky Mountains in 2008.

The Smokefree Wyoming Campaign continues to recruit communities across the state. A Smokefree community campaign was kicked off in Alpine last summer and now Afton is considering a Smokefree community ordinance. The ordinances would prohibit smoking in public places. Statewide legislation may be considered in the 2008 session.
