Time for Winter Sports

With Fall sports now complete, the winter sports season officially starts today. Team members participating in boy’s and girl’s basketball as well as wrestling will be out in force this afternoon as the first official day of winter practice begins after school. It will be two opposite end of the spectrum for athletes at SVHS with a big mix of new things and familiar faces. In basketball, Head coaches Todd Dixon and Jason Cazier will be at the helm for the Braves and Lady Braves respectively on the basketball court. Those two gentlemen will be joined by a nearly new staff for the school’s first season in Wyoming’s 4A classification. Ben Hale and Brandy Taylor, who coach the freshman teams, are the only holdovers from last year’s staff. The Braves are coming off a championship season with a 21-7 record, while the Lady Braves also had a winning record last year of 15-10. On the wrestling mat, things couldn’t be more different where Head Coach Eddie Clark and his staff are not only back to lead the team, but will be joined by a large majority of wrestlers from last year’s 3A state championship team. All three individual champions from last year, Justin “Whitey” Gardner, Ricky Fairbanks and Zack Walker, will all be back for a shot in the 4A Class.
