The Lady Braves absolutely needed more points as the season now moves towards conference play. With their win over visiting Kemmerer, they looked downright offensive.
Carolee Saunders scored a game-high 22 points to lead the way as Star Valley dusted Kemmerer, 64-54. Saunders wasn’t just in the scoring column, as she compiled nine rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots and a steal. Danette Warren finished with 14 points and a team-high four steals, while sophomore Shae Wilkes, getting her first start with Sage Draney sidelined, finished with ten points and five rebounds.
For the Lady Rangers, they were never able to keep up with an invigorated Star Valley squad, who led by as many as 13 points. Lynzee Crosland finished with 16 points, while Codi Anne Corpening chipped in ten. Despite having no players over 5′ 10″, the Lady Braves out-rebounded Kemmerer, 33-24.
The Braves weren’t quite as fortunate as they ran into a hot-shooting Ranger team who stifled the Star Valley offense. Despite averaging under four points per game, Kemmerer’s David Paulson netted 19 and five rebounds to lead the way in a 62-50 Ranger victory. Parkie Lint also finished in double figures with 14 points.
Star Valley trailed by as many as 23 points in the contest and 21 in the fourth quarter. Sophomores David Cranford and Brandon Taylor entered the game in the final stanza to mount somewhat of a comeback, as Cranford finished with eight points. Taylor finished with four steals. The Braves were led by Remick Rappleye and Tyler Schwab who each finished with nine points.
In junior varsity action, both teams were successful. The JV Lady Braves won 57-31, while their counterparts defeated Kemmerer, 57-41.
Both the Braves and Lady Braves will now face their first 4A West games as they play Casper Natrona on Friday evening. The Braves will be on the road while the Lady Braves will be on the home floor. Both teams will face Kelly Walsh the following day on Saturday afternoon.
