Despite bitter and blowing snow outside, the Evanston Red Devils and Lady Devils heated up the hardwood and came away with a pair of victories in the process.

The Lady Braves led for much of their contest with the Lady Devils, with Evanston going ahead in the final minute to seal off the victory. Star Valley’s Carolee Saunders had a fantastic evening, scoring a game-high 19 points before going to the floor with a high ankle sprain at the 1:46 mark in the fourth quarter. The injury seemed to take the wind out the the Star Valley sails as Evanston scored the final five points for a 51-47 win.

Danette Warren had a heroic night on the boards, hauling down 15 rebounds and scoring seven on senior night. Sage Draney also compiled five rebounds, while McKenzie Luthi scored eleven points. It was the final home game for Saunders, Warren, Draney and Luthi.

Other standouts saw junior Aubree Johnson dish out a team-high five assists, while Saunders also blocked three shots.

Ashley Davis had a monster first half, scoring 14 points and hauling in six rebounds. Davis finished with 18 points and eleven rebounds to go along with five steals and two blocked shots. Delina Delgado scored eight of her ten points in the second half, including hitting four of five free-throws down the stretch for the win. Jana Barker and Kelsi Thornock chipped in nine and seven points respectively.

The game between the Braves and Devils wasn’t nearly so close as Evanston played a near-perfect half while Star Valley could do nothing right. After two quarters, the visitors led 49-12.

Evanston coasted to the easy victory, 78-45.

Evanston emptied their bench in the fourth quarter and eleven different players made it into the scoring column. The Red Devils were led by Austin Kofoed’s 20 points while Hazen Davis finished with 18 of his own. Brandon Bartlett also finished in double figures, netting ten points.

For the Braves, it was an evening of turnovers and frustration. Tyler and Mitch Schwab each finished with ten points to lead the team in scoring, while Remick Rappleye chipped in six.

The Lady Braves will be on the road next weekend as they begin the second half of the conference slate in Casper to take on Natrona and Kelly Walsh.

The Braves will host the Casper schools, who will make the long trek to Lincoln County.

Both the boy’s and girl’s squads for Natrona and Kelly Walsh swept Star Valley in previous games this season.
