It’s a Start: Lady Braves claim first conference win

Carolee Saunders notched 13 points and five steals to pace the Lady Braves to a 40-37 win over visiting Green River Saturday night.

The Lady Braves led the entire game, but the Lady Wolves did force four ties over the course of the contest but were never able to claim the advantage.

Danette Warren scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds and collected four steals in the effort while Mckenzie Luthi scored six second half points and hit the final two free throws to seal the game.  The Lady Braves also received a spark off the bench from sophomore Randi Robinson who scored five points in her first significant varsity time of the season.

For the visiting Lady Wolves, they were led by Jenelle Strampe who finished with a double-double, compiling 13 points and ten rebounds to go along with three blocked shots. Kada Williams was next with 12 points, eight of which came from the free-throw line, before fouling out.

Green River hit on 13 of 17 free throws while Star Valley went 11 of 19.

The win was the first win in the 4A West for Coach Jason Cazier and the Lady Braves who improved to (4-11) overall and (1-3) in the conference.

The Braves weren’t nearly as fortunate, falling behind an aggressive Wolf pack early before eventually losing 94-63.

Drew Martinez paced Green River with 21 points, although he was just one of five different players who notched double figures.  Colter Rood scored 15, Mitch Roberts compiled 14, Isaac Wittman collected 13 while Casey Cassity hit four three-point baskets and finished with twelve.

Star Valley was led  by Tyler Schwab’s 14 second half points, while Mitch Schwab scored 12 before leaving with an injured ankle in the third period.  Zane Porter also hit for double figures, finishing with eleven.
