Newspaper staff brings home 12 Pacemaker Awards
Last weekend the Star Valley Independent earned accolades from the Wyoming Press Association as well as newspapers around the state. The Independent brought home 12 Pacemaker Awards from the statewide press convention, held in Casper Jan. 17-19.
Pacemaker Awards are presented for excellent performance in advertising, newspaper design, news coverage, photography and web page design. While the Star Valley Independent earn has earned a handful of awards every year, 12 Pacemakers in a single year is a record.

“The 12 awards the Wyoming Press Association presented to the Star Valley Independent over the weekend in Casper are reflective of the great work of our staff,” said Dan Dockstader, publisher and owner of the Star Valley Independent. “Our entire staff has worked long and hard hours over the past year to bring you an award winning paper.”

This year’s awards included, first place in web page design; first place in open page design; and a special merit award for creating and publishing student champion posters.

The newspaper also received a first place for in-depth reporting, sports feature story and institutional advertisement.
Second place awards were presented to the newspaper for headline writing, use of color in an advertisement, news feature story and general news photography.

The Star Valley Independent also received honorable mentions for small advertisement design and general news story.
