Braves claim 8th consecutive regional, this time in 4A

After building what looked like an insurmountable lead in the first day and a half, the Braves saw the power of the Natrona Mustangs as they closed to within 12 points before three wins in their final four matches gave Star Valley the 4A West Regional Crown.

The win gave the program it’s eighth consecutive regional title, although this time in the 4A Classification. Star Valley’s Eddie Clark was named Coach of the Year in the 4A West.

The Braves finished with a whopping 230 points to take the top spot, while Natrona also finished with an impressive 203.5 points for second. Star Valley finished with 24 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament, while the Mustangs finished with one more, 25.

Green River pulled away in the final rounds, claiming a solid third place with 159.5 points, while Rock Springs finished in fourth position with 129. Evanston and Kelly Walsh both finished right behind, tied for fifth with 127 points apiece.

After the conclusion of the tournament, SVHS wrestler Dakota Dana was awarded a check from valley businesses which totaled over $21,900. The businesses had committed to contribute based upon the total team points for the Braves. In additional related news, Scott Dana is still listed in critical condition, but is now coherent and improving according to the family.

The Star Valley Independent wishes to also extend a hand of appreciation to businesses and programs from numerous programs throughout Wyoming who has overwhelmed our valley with generosity.

Congratulations to all the teams in attendance for an amazing two days of wrestling action that was packed with thrills, close calls and abundant sportsmanship.

The Braves will wrap up their season against the rest of the 4A Class as they head to Casper this weekend in an effort to knock off the five-time defending state champion, Campbell County Camels from Gillette.
