Star Valley welcomes 4A West Wrestlers

Teams from Natrona, Evanston, Rock Springs, Kelly Walsh and Green River will join the Braves on their home mat as the six squads vie for their own chunk of the state tournament spots in Casper next week.
SVHS Head Coach Eddie Clark provided some in depth thoughts on who could walk away with individual accolades Saturday evening, but in a conference with the lion’s share of championship contenders this year, it’s the all-important process of qualifying for Casper that will occupy the teams’ thoughts on Friday.
“You can’t win a state tournament at regionals, but you can sure lose one,” stated Clark. “This is just going to be an incredibly intense competition this weekend. When you take a look at the rankings (provided below) you can see that in some cases, there are four or five of the state’s top wrestlers here in Star Valley in any given weight this weekend.”
While the teams will all be fighting for superiority on the mat, Clark also reiterated the close bond that wrestling communities have always shared, particularly in light of the recent tragedy that SVHS experienced earlier this month with the loss of Frank and Barbara Dana in a auto accident.
It’s a bond that Clark has expressed deep appreciation for.
“It’s been unbelievable really,” added Clark. “Within just a couple of days afterwards, I had been contacted by virtually every wrestling program in the state, wishing us well and offering support and sending donations for the family. At the end of the day, that’s the really special thing about wrestling communities is that it’s all about the relationships you build and I and truly grateful for everyone who has pitched in to help.”
The Friday afternoon matches will begin at 3 p.m. and frequent updates including video and audio files will be posted right here on starvalleyindependent.com.
With the cancellation of previous matches last week, the SVHS seniors will be honored Friday evening at 7 p.m.
