Trojans claim victory on SVHS floor; sweep the Braves

Despite waiting a few extra days to make the trip, the Kelly Walsh Trojans looked anything but bored and fatigued from the drive. Joe Munsell dropped a season-high 26 points while Cobi Eskew scored 19 in a 67-51 Trojan victory.

Munsell scored the game’s first nine points and it turned out to be a sign of things yet to come for the 6′ 0″ junior who scored 16 in the first half and ten more in the second half.

It was a game of runs as Munsell spearheaded an 11-0 run to open the game, only to see Star Valley go on a 10-0 run to close the gap. The Trojans responded with yet another run to lead 18-12 after the first quarter.

Star Valley’s offense was stuck in second gear all night as they committed many consecutive turnovers which led to a double-digit lead for the visitors. After leading by nine at halftime, the Trojans broke the game open with some quick transition buckets from Matt and Lucas Nolan to Eskew who scored 13 of his total in the second half.

The Braves trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half and the lone highlight of the evening was a monster two handed jam from Mitch Schwab after a steal. Schwab finished with 15 points to lead the Braves. Tyler Schwab canned a trio of three-point baskets in the first half to finish with nine, while Kurtis Suloff scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter.

It was the second victory of the season for Kelly Walsh, both of them coming by way of the Braves.

Star Valley will be back on the road Friday evening against Rock Springs and on Saturday against Green River.
