Delays may frustrate travelers over Togwotee Pass

Although Yellowstone National Park is a huge tourist destination every season, road construction in between Grand Teton National Park and the nation’s oldest treasure may put a dent in guests’ summer plans.Yellowstone National ParkTogwotee Pass is one of the most scenic and dangerous passes in Wyoming and will have construction work commencing in the early hours of the morning this summer.  This is a situation which should lead to safer travel in both the summer and winter seasons.

Crews have been rebuilding the highway over the pass. This Monday through Friday, the highway will be closed from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and from 2:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Also, blasting is scheduled for 7 p.m. each day during the week. The blasting could cause delays of up to an hour.

This latest phase of the project involves stabilizing three landslide zones and adding a box culvert and a bridge to help wildlife cross the highway.

Culverts also are being built for snowmobilers and trees are being removed to improve visibility for drivers.
