Denied! Double L Ranch airstrip struck down
By Sarah Hale on Jul 24, 2008 in Alpine, Featured, News, Star Valley Ranch
In a unanimous vote, the Lincoln County Planning Commission has voted against recommending a grass airstrip on the Double L Ranch just north of Etna. The decision was made Wednesday, July 23 at the regular county planning and zoning meeting.
According to information presented at the meeting, there are 20 airstrips or airports in the Star Valley area already. The vast majority of those airstrips are privately owned and operated.
For complete details of the decision, see the July 31 edition of the Star Valley Independent.

Dear Editor
My thanks to Sarah for her front page coverage concerning the impending visit of crew members from the USS Wyoming and her very well written article about the boat on the Opinion page of the July 17 edition.
Twenty two crew members USS Wyoming SSBN-742 (Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine) flew from their home port of Kings Bay, Georgia to Cheyenne on Thurs. July 17. On Sun. July 20 they split into three groups going to locations throughout Wyoming. Seven members drove to Pinedale where they were hosted by the EnerCrest Co. They were again hosted by the EnerCrest Co. the next morning and afternoon in Big Piney. where they were given a tour of a portion of the gas fields and a presentation concerning Wyoming’s contribution to the energy resources of the nation. They then drove to Jackson where they stayed the nights of July 21 and July 22 departing on July 23. While in Jackson they visited Teton Park, took a scenic boat trip, went horse back riding and took a white water rafting trip. They spent Weds. night in Star Valley Ranch and returned to Cheyenne on thurs. On Fri. July 25 they flew back to Kings Bay.
I want to thank the residents of Star Valley for their enthusiastic display of support and affection for these crew members. It is a great honor for the State Of Wyoming to have a namesake ship. The state proves the worthiness of this honor when ever crew members visit. I especially want to thank Greg and Jodi Stewart of Dad’s Steakhouse for their generosity toward the crew and Doug Henry for his help on the White Water trip and opening his home to members of the crew.
The crew members all expressd their appreciation for the warm welcome they received here in Star Valley. They had a terrific time where ever they went in Wyoming. Their experiences will be shared with their shipmates and throughout the fleet.
