Friday Sports Stir - Sunday Night edition
By dahlerickson on Jul 6, 2008 in Afton, Alpine, Education, Sports
Well, with the Governor in town, the nation celebrating it’s birthday and yours truly with a busy schedule, I forgot my new Friday sports trivia. Well, here’s your makeup question -
Of course all of the Friday Sports Stir questions can be answered using your comment section, and it’s always a chance to either show off your intelligence, or your luck. Either one is good here.
Okay, here we go. With the Star Valley Braves beginning their summer football camp Monday evening at 6 p.m., this one has to be a football question. The Star Valley Athletic Club played their first football game in the fall of 1928 under Coach Newell Peterson. They lost their first two games to Kemmerer and Cokeville respectively (ouch!). They won in Week 3 against what team? For bonus points, what was the score?
This is also important because Star Valley has won at least one game in every season they have played, no small feat over eight decades of football.
I am keeping track of the winners for this portion of starvalleyindependent.com, and they will be rewarded with cool Star Valley gear for the winners of each month, so take your best guess.
Good luck to the football and soccer players who both begin camps on Monday, check back for some video and some pictures from their July experiences right here at the website.

Was it Jackson? Score…21-14?
Not Jackson, but a good guess. The series with Jackson began in 1931. I’m obviously not getting a lot of guess, maybe you’ll win this week because you put forth your thought.
Here’s a hint: It’s a town in Idaho -
was it bear lake?
Another good guess, and we’re getting mighty close. Here’s the final hint for this week’s question:
It’s a town in Idaho, that also shares it’s name with the capital city in France. Star Valley no longer plays them and hasn’t for many years.
If you get it, be sure to make a guess on the score, and remember that scoring wasn’t quite as high in the ’20’s.
Since nobody else wants to play I will say Paris, Id
Score 12-0 ?
Ding, Ding, Ding! Rick Walker wins again! Now the Paris thing isn’t so much of a stretch, but your score was eerily close to the actual score.
Star Valley defeated Paris, ID by the score of 13-0 in their third game of the 1928 season, their first in school history.
I’ll be keeping a running tab on points for the sports trivia as it continues, and right now I’m going to say Rick is at 3 points (he’s getting credit for the score being so close. See? I’m easy)
Remember Joseph and Ricky, you can guess more than once, in fact, you can keep guessing until you get it right.
One more point and Rick Walker is going to be the proud owner of a Star Valley Cheesemakers hat from the Star Valley Independent.
Thanks for the participation this week, and we’ll see you on Friday with another question.
