25- years ago:

• Walter Kirby was presented with the trophy and a check for $320 for first place in the SV EMT’s Fourth Annual Demolition Derby held during the Lincoln County Fair.

• There were many excellent exhibits in the household arts division of the Lincoln County Fair. Those receiving purple rosettes on their baked foods include: Nona Cassity, Gwenna Nelson, Monica Kennington, Polly Erickson, Allene Heiner, Jan Hyde, Julie Lewis.

50-years ago:

• Ad: At Brog & Hemmert in Afton. Watch for our Big Special $.88 Sale.

• Afton’s new Elkhorn arch across Main Street is proving to be a very popular tourist attraction. Only a few weeks old, it has already been photographed thousands of times.

• Ad: Boxing Thursday at the Freedom Rodeo Grounds. 10 bouts–2 main events. No admission charge, donations accepted–proceeds go to Freedom Ward building fund.

75-years ago:

• Glen news: All of Glen turned out Tuesday to help make the Swiss banquet and dance a real time. Again the stork appeared in Glen and left a big baby girl at the home of Clarence Ashment. Mother and babe doing fine.

• Wants Crusher Jaw Returned–Mr. T.O. Harris informs us that a broken rock crusher jaw is missing from the gravel pit in the narrows. He thinks probably some one has taken it for an anvil.

• Ad: Wrigley’s Spearmint, the Perfect Gum. In step with the Nation.

100-years ago:

• Local items: A crowd of twenty-three of Smoot young people enjoyed a few days at Cottonwood Lake last week.

• For sale–15 cows; inquire of John A. Hyde of Freedom, Wyo.

• (Stake) Fair news: Fairview may haul in some heavy rails on which to roast the ox and sheep for the Barbecue. Afton Mutual may build a Merry-Go-Round. The following Ladies have won in the primary contest for queen of the Fair: Miss Edith Walton of the Auburn and Grover district; Miss Mary Moser of the Lower Valley district, and Miss Mary Call of Afton.
