Ty Draney wins 100-mile Ultra-marathon

The vast majority of people will never know the type of  dedication it takes to even complete an ultra-marathon.  Saturday morning, local running enthusiast and SVHS Cross-Country coach Ty Draney, found out what it was like to win one.

The Bear 100, is a race that extends from Logan, Utah and finishes in Fish Haven Idaho.  By the way, this isn’t a road race, but extends over mountainous terrain and tests the limits of the human body.  In previous attempts, Draney had finished in the top five of this race which extends over the evening between Friday and Saturday.

So, 100 miles?  Check.  Running over a mountain?  Check?  Doing it at night?  Check.  Breaking 20 hours while doing it?  Check.  Draney’s time of 19:59 means not only did he break an impressive time barrier, but averaged over five miles per hour while doing it.

Assistant Coach of the X-C team, Corena Ricks is also participating in the event and is currently on the course.

The Independent is amazed and impressed by these valley residents and a special congratulations go out to Draney who continues to show his peers and students the real meaning of heart.

I’ve always considered Senor Draney to be “the man” because he CAN run 100 miles. But now he has won a 100 mile race. I wish you could see my jaw.

Wow…I cannot comprehend the guts it takes to run and/or win a hundred mile race. Go coach! Go Mrs. Ricks!

So, Alicia, are you saying one of your ambitions is to run an ultramarathon?

That is so insane! Can anyone tell me if there is another X-C coaching staff, in WY, that competes at this level? Take note SVHS, these coaches go the distance and then some.
