After going ten days without a match, the Lady Braves went into Green River Wednesday evening with the hope that they would be able to play a bit better. 

At the end of the evening one could very easily say that was the case, although there is still obvious room for development.

The freshman squad lost to the Lady Wolves, while the sophomores and junior varsity defeated their Green River counterparts.  The momentum of the matches carried over into the varsity match where Star Valley won game one, before falling in three straight, hard-fought games.

The Lady Braves led game one, 17-6 before Green River closed the gap.  Star Valley was able to hang on to take the opening stanza, 27-25. In game two, the home team evened things up with a 25-20 win.  Down two starters as Kortnie Thomas and Lachelle Winters both sat out, the Lady Braves wore down a bit, losing game three, 16-25 and falling 10-25 in game four.

“We had a great start with a lot of adrenaline and strategy, like tough serving, and I was really proud of that effort,” stated Head Coach Brandy Taylor.  “Green River made some adjustments and we backed off a little and lost our killer instinct due to our youth.

“However, we had a little different lineup due to two missing players, but the girls played well for being mixed up a little.  We are growing as a team and sticking together which will take us far in the
future.”

The Lady Braves, along with the entire Star Valley sports program, will be on the road this weekend in various venues, but it’s the spikers who have the furthest to go in their trip to Casper.  To further add to the anxiety, a winter storm watch is in effect for many of the roads the teams are traveling.

“We’re looking forward to playing the two best teams in the state again,” added Taylor.  “We want to see how much we’ve improved since we hosted them at home.”
