Braves nearly pull off Eastern sweep to begin hoops season

After a season where the Braves went just 2-18, the hope was that they could raise their competition level to the 4A classification.  After a weekend that saw them just a few missed free throws from a 3-0 start, expectations from the public may have changed.

Dakota Dana pinned this man and is in the semi-finalsThe Braves collected their second win of the weekend in a 48-44 slug-fest with Cheyenne Central.  It was the second time in less than 14 hours the Braves had played against a Cheyenne school on their home court and played well.  Star Valley previously won on Thursday over Laramie, 66-64, and lost a heartbreaker Friday night in overtime to East, 69-66.

The Lady Braves will be looking for some answers when they get home after a trio of lop-sided losses.  The gals in gold first fell to defending champion, Central, 60-33.  Friday night saw the East Lady T-Birds run away with a 67-33 win, before Laramie knocked off Star Valley by a healthy margin Saturday morning.

Braves finish in fifth place in 30-team field at Evanston Invitational

As for the wrestlers, they were busy at the Evanston Invitational where they sat in fifth place after day one with 72 points.  Dakota Dana, Nick Edwards and Paul Woodie had advanced to the semi-finals.  The team score remained good enough for fifth overall for SVHS.  While the Braves won this event by 58 points a year ago, the team is utilizing a lot of young talent, and a fifth place finish is eyed as a good beginning.

Congratulations to Dakota Dana for his individual championship and Paul Woodie for this second place finish.
