Thayne library providing array of activities

The Thayne Branch Library has a lot to offer the local community. Every week, according to Sherry Skinner, Thayne Branch Library children’s librarian, there is something going on at the library.
Reading Books: A favorite holiday tradition“We may be small but we have it all at the Thayne Library,” Skinner said. “We have new books coming in monthly, a collection of great books for every age with access to other books through our inter library loan system, books on CD and cassette, videos, magazines, newspapers and computers with high speed internet. We will also have a new children’s computer that will be available in January.”

In addition to the reading materials available, there are a variety of programs available at the library.

“We offer programs for everyone,” said Skinner. “Story time with stories, songs and crafts for babies and preschoolers are Monday at the library or Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Thayne Town Hall.”
All of the story time programs start at 10 a.m. and last approximately 45 minutes. The programs are free and no registration is required.
“Our story time theme for the winter is who are the people in your neighborhood,” said Skinner.

For older children, the Thayne Branch Library hosts an after school program. The after school program takes place the second Thursday every month.
The after school program is done open house style from 3-5 p.m. Activities include crafts, games and stories. On Thursday, Jan. 8 the theme will be winter. On Thursday, Feb. 12 the theme will be Abraham Lincoln.
The adult “Let it Snow” reading challenge has stared for anyone age 16 and older. The program challenges adults to read 10 books between now and March 31. Every adult reader to complete the challenge will receive a recyclable tote bag.

Readers who complete at least five books from a “Let it Snow” reading list will be entered for a grand prize drawing. The “Let it Snow” program will end with a party in April.
The Thayne Branch Library is located at 117 N Petersen Parkway in Thayne. It is open Monday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the library is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
