25-years ago:

Exie the Clown is a creation of The Country Burger and The Extravaganza, Afton businesses, to entertain at children’s birthday parties. (There was a picture to show the children who attend the first party Exie hosted at The Country Burger this past week.)

Jerry Snyder, nationally recognized guitar teacher, clinician and performing artist and writer, stopped at the Star Valley High school recently to pick guitar and talk to the music students of Mr. Scott Schwab. Mr. Snyder was returning to Jackson to catch his plane back to California following a state music convention for music teachers.

75-years ago:

Ski tournament at Freedom postponed–the scarcity of snow has compelled the committee to select a later date which they call February 24, for their ski meet. This time of the year should furnish the hill with a blanket of snow sufficient for the flying hardwood to do the act…. To the skiers who really wish to see a thrilling hill, and try their skill on it, be at Etna, Sat. Feb 3 at 12 o’clock. The hill is straight East of Etna on the mountain slop. Bear Clinger says it’s the greatest of all hills for thrills, but too steep an approach for great distance. Come out and see a real hill and dense canopy of pines. It has two jumps erected.

Checker tournament–Have you selected your champion checker player? If not, remember you have only until February 13 to select a champion to represent you ward in the finals of each valley, the then the final championship for the whole Star Valley. The best players of each valley will compete for the first and second places. “Who knows? you may be the champion.”

100-years ago:

Grover news: Mrs. Hepworth dies–A gloom has been cast over this community by the sad death of Comera Bessile Hepworth, wife of Geo. W. Hepworth. She is the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her, the youngest being but a week old when its mother died.
