Star Valley food banks accepting donations

While the area’s two food banks are on stable ground now, possible increased demand may change that thought.
There are two food banks in Star Valley one is located in Afton, the other is in Alpine. According to Heather Warren the Afton food bank is located at The Afton Town Hall. “Right now we have been able to meet the needs of the people that come in, the boy scouts have been able to help keep us stocked when they do their canned food drive, but we are anticipating an increase in need, we are covered now, but it won’t last.”
The food bank in Alpine is run by Paster Warren Jones of Morning Star Church. He too has indicated that so far they have been able to meet the needs of the people in the Valley that have come to them for help.
“We are focusing on community needs more, and are antcipating and increase in the need for food as more people become aware that we have a food pantry, and because of hard economic times.” Jones goes on to say, “The Boy Scout did a soup drive on Super Bowl Sunday and donated three boxes of soup, so right now we are stocked with soup.”
Both food banks are accepting donations. They would like nonparishable items such as canned fruits and vegetables, or packaged items that are easy to store and prepare like macaroni and cheese, soup, or rice. If you would like to make a donation to the Afton food bank you can bring it to Afton Town Hall.
If you are in the Alpine area and would like to donate to the food bank call Paster Jones at Morning Star Church 654-7792. If you are in need of help you can stop by the City Hall in Afton, and receive a prepared box of food items for you family.
If you are in Alpine call Morning Star Church and receive help with no strings attached.
