25-years ago:
Smokey the Bear and Woodsy the Owl visited the Afton and Smoot Elementary schools on Thursday March 15. Their visit was coordinated with National Wildlife week, and they wanted the children to understand the importance of clean water.

50-years ago:
Wyoming will receive a U.S. Treasury check totaling over $5 ½ million as its share in funds from mineral leasing on Federal lands during the last six months of 1958, Rep. Keith Thomson announced today.
Floyd B. Hunsaker, who operates a U.S. Government Weather Substation at Bedford, reports some interesting observations contained in the climatological date of the summary of Wyoming Weather Substation records for 1958. Among them are the following, of local interest: The Bedford, Wyo., substation was the wettest in the state, with a total of 21.88 inches of precipitation. The wettest month was November with 4.07 inches. The driest month was October with .22 inches. The Afton 2 mile N. Substation showed 16.88 inches total for the year. The state average shows approximately 12.91 inches with the Snake River drainage, averaging 18.37 inches being the wettest drainage area. The Green and Bear River drainage were the driest areas of the state with an average of 7.31 inches. The average temperatures as shown by the annual summary for the Bedford substation is 40.3 degrees; for the Afton 2 mile N. Substation, 39.4 degrees. The state’s average temperature is near 43 degrees.
75-years ago:

On account of the high film rental, we have to raise the admission to $.15 and $.35 Don’t all wait for Saturday night.
City Library is Now Completed. Friday, March 23, 1934. Do you hear that bell ringing. It is tolling out the glad news that we have a city library. Hurry down to Main street and from the side walk see the big parade of four hundred people in colorful, artistic costumes marching to the strains of martial music furnished by our own band. Then go over to the city library and listen to an inspiring program, after which you will be escorted through one of the most unique library’s and club rooms in the state of Wyoming. Refreshments will be free to all. It is positively necessary that certain streets be closed to traffic that accidents and confusion be avoided. This is your afternoon, be out and enjoy it.
The Afton South Ward Sunday School will stage one of the biggest entertainments in months, which will be in the way of a Black and White Minstrel. They are using the very best material that can be gathered together. Watch this paper for full information, such as cast, time, place and adm.
100-years ago:
