5 years ago, citizens of Star Valley traveled to Vietnam for humanitarian efforts25-years ago:

The American Legion has announced their selection of boys that will be attending Wyoming Boy’s State in Douglas: Laramie Merritt, John Draney, Vance Schwab, and Troy Hyde.

The Afton Branch Lincoln County Library celebrated its 50th anniversary on Friday, at the library located on Washington Street. The program at 2 p.m. began outside in the parking lot under blue skies as the Star Valley High School band and chorus performed several patriotic musical numbers and a flag raising ceremony was held. The audience then moved inside for the remainder of the program. . . . A pen and ink drawing of the first library building, drawn by local artist Steven Greenwall, was on display as well as work by other local artist.

Host families needed for foreign exchange students. Have you ever wanted to travel to another country just to see what it was like? Maybe this is not possible or feasible. As an alternative, have you ever considered hosting an exchange student from another country? . . . Learning a foreign language and customs are the obvious benefits to be derived from participating in the exchange program; however, there are many more. Like people, each hosting experience is in some way different and provides new and lasting memories to be cherished throughout a lifetime.

50-years ago:

The Star Valley Community Church announces an Easter sunrise service for all wishing to attend, Sunday, March 29, at 6:45 a.m. at the end of McCoy Creek Road in Alpine, under the direction of Eldred C. Bagley, pastor.

Lincoln County will be host to the district “Make It Yourself With Wool Contest” this fall, according to officers of the Lincoln County Far Bureau. . . . Girls are urged to plan their 100 percent wool outfits now for the contest.

The Wyoming Highway Commission has agreed to go along with Gov. Joe Hickey and the State Legislature; the state will use yellow centerline striping on its highways this year.

75-years ago:

Western States interested in the construction of the road up the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. A very important meeting was held last Monday in Ogden at Hotel Ben Lomard in the interest of starting the construction of a highway through the grand canon of the Snake River. Many communities of Utah, Idaho and Wyo. were represented. At this meeting it developed that this project is not longer a Wyoming project but a western states protect, as all those present manifest a vital interest in the road.

All marble players get tuned up, for we are going to have some real marble games, and there will be some real medals given to the champions. Who will be champs? Watch for rules in next paper. This tournament will be sponsored by the Star Valley Recreative Association.

100-years ago:

Grover news: The character ball last Friday night was not a very good success just a very few taking part. It was given by the officers of the primary, but not one of them took any interest in making it a sociable time by representing a character. Mr. Joseph Anderson is going to sell his milk cows. Mr. Martin Jensen is going to run the milk wagon and his father’s farm.

Washington–Taft’s message brief and plain–does not waste time in attempt to present statement of the needs of the country. Asks that statesmen get busy with the tariff, declaring business interests demand that work of revision be done without delay.
