Star Valley soldiers join Wyoming deployment
By Sarah Hale on Apr 23, 2009 in News, Video
Members of the 1041st Engineering Company as well as local servicemen and women from other branches of the United States Military have deployed with soldiers from across the state.
According to Bill Hoopes, family assistance specialist for the Wyoming Military Department, between 35 and 40 local soldiers are now serving active duty.
According to Hoopes, an official local soldier list will not be released at this time. However, if businesses or individuals would “like to help with an activity or sponsor an activity” in support of military families, they can contact him directly. The Wyoming Army National Guard was ordered to mobilize 941 soldiers for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
This is the single largest deployment of Wyoming soldiers in state history. Farewell ceremonies were held across the state this last week in the hometowns of the activated units.
For more information on local soldiers who are now serving active duty, contact Bill Hoopes at 885-3449 or (307) 286-9993.

Thank you so much for making a public note about our local soldiers. I know it means a lot to them and their families. I am the wife of Sgt Jesse Williams of A-BTRY 2/300 FA and I am so greatfull to see that our soldiers are being thought of and appreciated. A big thank you to Bill Hoopes for submitting this article and taking such wonderful photos.

Thank you to the Star Valley Independent for recognizing the Wyoming Service Men and Women as they depart for and return from their tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is truly appreciated by both the Soldier, the families and other Service Members. Thank you to Bill for his time and work with the Guard Family Program. Big hello to all in Star Valley from Afghanistan.

Thank you Bill for all that you have done and will do for our daughter, grandkids and son-in-law. It is very comforting for my husband and I to know that you are there in Afton and that you have the families and soldiers first and formost in you mind. It is wonderful what you do. We truly appreciate it and pray that our soldiers will be safe and can accomplish all they are assigned to do. Bless you Bill.
