State weekend recap

The “spring” sports at SVHS have come to a close.
The track teams competed in their second year of 4A competition and it’s hard to argue that the higher level of competition has not resulted in faster times and better marks. Many school records have fallen in those two years, and several others have been challenged.
In the end, the Braves finished sixth as a team with 41 team points. Some standout performances came from seniors Jason Livingston and Tyler Skinner, who both placed in three different events. Livingston placed a very close second in the 800 Meter run, breaking the school record in the process. His time of 1:57.51 is the fastest in Star Valley history. The previous record belonged to Joseph Call in 2007 of 1:57.82. Livingston also went on to place fourth in the 1600 Meter run and sixth in the 3200 Meter run.
Skinner placed in the High Jump, Triple Jump and the 300 Meter Hurdles.
As for the Ladies, they placed ninth with 31 team points. With only one senior on the team, the Lady Braves appear poised to move up dramatically next year and will be led by Audrey West. West placed second in the 100 Meter Dash, third in the 200 and third in the 400. She also placed eighth in the Long Jump, breaking the school mark in the process. Senior Alicia Inskeep competed in two events, scoring points with the 4 x 800 Meter relay. Fellow senior Madison Wilkes, who holds the school Shot Put record, also scored in her signature event.

State Soccer
The Star Valley Lady Braves played much better in this year’s outing than their first trip to the state tournament a year ago, but it still resulted in a first round loss to top-rated Laramie.
The Lady Plainsmen, who won the 4A East and only tasted defeat once all season, knocked Star Valley to the consolation bracket in a 3-0 Lady Braves loss.
The score was tied at 0-0 at the half, with a pesky wind affecting the team forced to shot into it. The Lady Braves were unable to capitalize with the wind in the first half, while Laramie scored all three times in the second half.
The Lady Plainsmen went on to defend their state championship while the Lady Braves lost 5-0 to Cheyenne East. With a large group returning yet again, the squad will have to address some of their questions on offense which abandoned them in the post-season where they only scored once in five games. It was a tough weekend in general for the 4A West girls, where just Natrona advanced and regional champion Kelly Walsh was blasted by Gillette in the opening round.
Standout defenders such as Kim Burton and Myka Draney will also be missed.

The 800 meter record at SVHS was only 1:57.82. I would know haha. So Jason Livingston did break the 800 meter record.

The record set by Joseph Call is actually 1:57.82 so Jason did set a new school record in the 800 meter.
