Swift Creek Hydroelectric plant back online after 40 years

In 1968, the Swift Creek Hydroelectric Plant was hit by a huge snowslide, destroying the facility. On April 30, 2009, it started churning out power once again.
With new demand for renewable “green” power, The Town of Afton, along with Lower Valley Energy (LVE), decided to move forward with the reconstruction of the plant. LVE CEO, Jim Webb, and Trustee, Rod Jensen, presented various people with mounted switches from the original 1948 plant, as well as artwork to commemorate the occasion.
The power that is now currently being produced by the Swift Creek Hydro plant has much of it’s capacity already contracted out to entities in Jackson Hole.
