25-years ago:

75-years ago:

The Fourth of July is the day, and the place is Etna. Be there at 10:30 a.m. and the boys who wore the khaki uniforms in 17 and 18 will be there to help you commemorate the birth of the good old U.S.A. It being the 158th anniversary of the day our fore fathers, breathing the breath of freedom and independence, declared to all the world they would keep life, liberty and the happiness for themselves and their posterity according to the dictates of their own conscience . . . .

Merilyn, infant daughter of Mr. an Mrs. Roney Barrus died June 23, from whooping cough and pneumonia. The twenty third day of the month was conspicuous in her life. She was born April 23, contracted whooping cough May 23, and died June 23.

100-years ago:

Celebrate the 4th of July at Afton on Monday July 5th. Grand program. FREE LUNCH. Children’s Sports. Children’s Dance. BRASS BAND ALL DAY. Athletic Sports. Foot Racing. Horse Racing. Baseball, Afton vs. Fairview. Basketball, Afton vs. Fairview. Grand Ball at night. EVERYBODY INVITED.

Program of Celebration of 4th of July at Fairview. We Celebrate Saturday July 5th.
