25-years ago:
Primary election draws average turnout.

Bedford news: A great-great grandchild is born–Evelyn Merritt received word Saturday of the birth of her first great-great grandchild to be named Johnathon Wubker.
50-years ago:
(photo) Lavell Larsen, 16-year-old 4-H’er from Thayne, shows his champion Holstein heifer at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas. Lavell won two blue ribbons with the champion heifer’s sister at the sate fair last year.

75-years ago:
Miss Erma Taysom, daughter of A.D. Tasyom of Afton arrived home today from Oregon, where she has been doing missionary work the past 16 months. Miss Taysom expected to be gone about three months when she left, but she was not released until last week. Needless to say, she is pleased to be home.
The school of the Valley started last Monday with the largest enrollment in the history of the Valley. We have not learned the number enrolled in the various towns and the Afton grades. In the high school the registration today is 365 or nine more than had registered last year on the corresponding day. Principal Holdaway states that he estimates that by he time all of the students are registered the number will be right near 400.
Clark Gable Plays Thrilling Role in Film–Clark Gable’s latest pictures, “Manhattan Melodrama” marking his return to the screen after his triumphal tour of the East, opens at the American Theatere Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 14, 15 and 16.
100-years ago:
Grover news: The school-house is receiving a new coat of paint on the outside and the inside is also receiving some attention. The primary school will start Monday morning, the principal a month later. Our teachers are the Misses Sullivan. Mary Welchman has gone out to Cokeville for the Winter.
Ad: All Hallows College, Salt Lake City, boarding and day school for boys. Class begins Wednesday, September 8, Classical, Scientific, and Commercial courses. Wow, 50 yrs! My other niece in Atlanta had a great suggestion for SV Independent, that you might publish small selected photos, from those past years, to enhance the Looking Back section. I was only 9, & my first State Fair –what a hoot !– but can’t believe it’s been so long. 1959 was a good year at State Fair for Lincoln Co dairy exhibitors, I recall, as Orson Pead also had the Grand Champ Brown Swiss female & I had 1st/Blue in a large class with my heifer Holly (born on Christmas)- later to take Grand Champ. Thanks for the memories.

Great point Kevan,
We try to add at least a 5-year picture to the post each week, but we didn’t this week for some reason. I’d love to be able to put relevant pics for the 50 and 25 years stuff, but they are almost always in negative form and stored in another building. I will try to do better with the digital versions from five years ago and so forth.
