The SVHS volleyball team and the football team both made the post-season but the trip proved to be short-lived.
The Lady Braves were eliminated at the state tournament in Casper with two sweeps at the hands of 4A East foes. First the defending champion Kelly Walsh Lady Trojans on Thursday evening and then by the Cheyenne Central Lady Indians on Friday afternoon. Despite losing some great senior leadership by girls like Shae Wilkes, Kortnie Thomas and Kadi Erickson, the Lady Braves will be looking to continue their improvement with a host of ladies who have now played for a lot of varsity minutes.
The Braves saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in Buffalo as the Bison capitalized on a Star Valley turnover and also had an 81-yard touchdown run right before the half. Buffalo scored again in the third quarter as they shut down Star Valley 21-0.
Mark Van Slyke caught seven passes to move into third place all-time on the SVHS varsity receptions list with 35.
Jace Jensen rushed for 95 yards and a score while Hayden Kessler finished with 79 yards and a score. The Bison defense held Star Valley to just 122 total yards.
Buffalo will now play at Cody next week in a rematch of last year’s semi-final Bison blowout in Park County. The Broncs eliminated Torrington 19-6.
On the other side of the bracket, home team Worland had to survive in double-overtime as they successfully converted a two-point conversion in the second extra stanz, 38-37.
Douglas continued to roll, shutting out Lander, 34-0.
