Green River claims 4A West Regional Crown

Evanston came out of the gate looking very strong in an opening win, but the Lady Wolves just wouldn’t go away.
Even after the Lady Red Devils who were down 8-1 to begin the second game, went on an 18-6 run to seemingly put the game and the match on their side. Green River battled back to take game two and then fought and won two more very close matches to claim the 2009 4A West Regional volleyball crown held at Star Valley High School.
GRHS’s Rikki Shantz was named the conference coach of the year even before the match started but it seemed fitting after her team came from behind to win the title in four games.
Natrona outlasted Star Valley in four games to notch fourth place. Star Valley will play Kelly Walsh, Natrona will play Laramie, Evanston will play Cheyenne Central and Green River will play Gillette in the opening round of the state tournament in Casper next weekend.
