The following are obituaries and death notices that appeared in the October 29, 2009 edition of the Star Valley Independent.
Gina Johnson Brewer was born on Sept. 3, 1964 to Farrell and Naomi Johnson in Afton. She had three brothers and one sister; Bobby; Kipp; Tory and Lori. Gina grew up on her Grandma Hemmert’s ranch. She loved riding horses and cleaning up the barn. Gina married the love of her life, Bill Brewer, on July 20, 1991. They had three daughters; Christina; Natasha and Sierra. She worked as a respite provider for 13 years and also had a day care, where she took care of her grandchildren and a couple of other children which meant the world to her. She was highly involved with the Star Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce, where she helped raise over $300,000. She was also a Turning Point advocate. Gina was always volunteering to help in anyway she could. She loved her summers up Little Greys River every weekend, and in early December to cut down Christmas trees with her family. Gina spent the last three years of her life with so much pain, trying to get the help she needed to get fixed – until her body just could not fight any longer. On Sept. 23, 2009 she had a massive heart attack, that stopped her heart. This one was actually the second or third heart attack she had. She had two more while she was in ICU. She under went a seven bypass surgery and recovered pretty well. Her heart was finally fixed. She fought so hard the next three weeks to get better, but her liver shut down. There was nothing anyone could do for her anymore. She passed away on Oct. 18, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Christina (Jeff) Stoker; Natasha Hess and Sierra Johnson; her grandchildren, Taylee and Tayson Stoker; and Kaydence Hess and Calli Carlson. She was welcomed in heaven by her brother, Bobby; her father; her angel, Kayzlee; and her grandparents.
Yvonne Diane Larson Overfield, of Smoot, entered into glory on Oct. 24, 2009. She was born Dec. 17, 1937 in Steven Minn., to Edgar and Laura Diane Larson. She married Donald Lloyd Overfield, Sr., on July 3, 1963 in Honolulu, Hawaii. This past July they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her loving husband; her five children, Donald Overfield, Jr., of Thayne; Debra Phillips of Waterford, Mich.; Laura Squier of Waterford, Mich.; Jennifer (Jim) Dennis of Afton and David Overfield of Thayne. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Jessica Yvonne and Brandon David. We are incredibly blessed to have had a mom who gave her love without conditions and was loyal and devoted without boundaries. The love she shared with our dad is a love and will be cherished. We will forever treasure her kind heart, amazing spirit, sense of humor, unwavering values, uncanny advise, endless hugs, limitless kisses, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh. Mom was truly one of a kind. Even though she will be missed beyond words, we are greatly comforted because of the love she had for the Lord and because of His promise we know, without a doubt, this is not goodbye. Into Paradise the Angels did lead you; in the arms of our Savior may you safely rest until we can all be together again. You will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Schwab Funeral Chapel, located just north of Thayne. The family will greet friends on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. at the Schwab Funeral Chapel in Thayne. Internment will take place in the Afton Cemetery.
Funeral services for Floyd Skinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at noon in the Bedford LDS Church. Viewings will take place on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Schwab Funeral Chapel in Thayne and again on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to funeral services at the church.
