Abby Nicoll invited to join Olympic Development Program

The Nicoll family has certainly put their stamp on Star Vallely Lady Braves soccer in it’s relatively short history.

Abbie Nicoll has been invited to participate in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the State of Wyoming.

“She’s the first girl from Star Valley ever to be invited,” stated former Lady Braves assistant coach and new Braves head coach, Scott Berglund.  “The Nicoll girls have cemented a reputation in the area and are a big part of Star Valley Soccer and they are well known around the state.”

Berglund went on to state that the ODP enters select tournaments around the country and play other development teams.

Sierra Nicoll was the school's first All-State selection for soccer and helped the Lady Braves earn their first trip to the state tournament in 2008“It’s really a good way to get your name out there and noticed for college scholarships,” he added.   “From the state level you go to the regional team.  From the regional team you can try out for the national team.”

Having been hanging around a soccer pitch for much of her young life around three successful older sisters, Abbie is already starting to put her name into play before the Lady Braves suit up in March.

“She was named the MVP of the Afton soccer league two years in a row,” replied Berglund.  “She’s easily one of the best girls I have seen play. She is one of the hardest workers we’ve ever had.  She’s played with the high school kids since she was ten years old.”

As for the opportunity, Berglund believes the chance to be taught by some of the country’s best has already had an effect and even brighter days are ahead for the Nicoll family.

“It’s a high honor, especially as a freshman.”
