The following are obituaries and death notices that appeared in the December 31, 2009 edition of the Star Valley Independent.

Funeral services for Wilma Hoopes Westover will be Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 12 noon in the Fairview LDS Ward Chapel.  Family will greet friends on Monday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schwab mortuary in Afton and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.

From the freshmen to the seniors, the Star Valley basketball program all did their jobs in a six-game holiday sweep of their rivals from Montpelier.

It was less of an offensive clinic and more of a battle for survival as the Star Valley Lady Braves clashed with rival Jackson this past Tuesday evening in Teton County.

Fans were treated to a classic on Tuesday night in Teton County as the Braves and Broncs faced off against each other in the Snake River Shootout and the moniker lived up to it’s name.

Students who participate in the archery program at Etna Elementary School traveled to Osmond Elementary  to compete against students involved in the archery program there.

The Bridger-Teton National Forest reports that José Castro will be appointed the new Deputy Forest Supervisor in January, filling the vacancy that was left when Deputy Mike Balboni transferred to Louisiana earlier this year.

Sunrise Engineering has completed an extensive water study in Star Valley for the Wyoming Water Development Commission.
