Afton company awarded state highway project

Contracts totaling more than $5.5 million for seven highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission last week during its January meeting in Cheyenne.  Kilroy, LLC, based in Afton, won the largest of the contracts with a low bid of $1.8 million for pavement repair work at three locations on I-25 east of Casper.

The work consists primarily of stabilizing the subgrade under the roadway and then placing a new layer of surfacing. Together, the three sections, located between mileposts 170 and 175, encompass about a mile of roadway. The work carries a completion date of Sept. 30.

A one-third mile section of Wyoming Boulevard (WYO 258) in Casper will be upgraded under terms of a $1.4 million contract awarded to Magnum Construction, LLC, of Casper. The work, located at the intersection of Wyoming Boulevard and Poplar Street, will involve renewing sections of both concrete and asphalt pavement, as well as placing new curb and gutter and making upgrades to water systems and traffic signals. Completion is set for Aug. 31.

Cruz Construction, Inc., of Colorado Springs, Colo., was the low bidder, at $1.3 million, for a project to remove and upgrade guardrails at various locations along a total of 20 miles of US 191 and WYO 233 in southwest Wyoming. Specifically, the project involves 8.5 miles of US 191 north of the Utah state line and 11.5 miles of WYO 233 north of Kemmerer. The work is scheduled for completion by Aug. 31.

About 250 roadside signs along I-25 and I-80 will be replaced or renewed by Rocky Mountain Enterprises, Inc., of Grand Junction, Colo., under terms of a $414,000 contract awarded to the firm. The project has a completion date of Aug. 31.

S&S Builders, LLC, of Gillette was successful in its bid of $352,000 to rehabilitate a bridge on Campbell County Road No. 53 (Hoadley Road), located east of WYO 59 between Gillette and Wright. The work will include pavement resurfacing and other improvement work on the bridge over the Burlington Railroad. Completion is expected by Aug. 31.

Simon Contractors of Cheyenne will resurface and make other improvements on a mile-long section of I-80 in Cheyenne under terms of a $179,000 contract. The project area is centered at the I-180/US 85 Interchange (exit 362), and Sept. 30 is set as the completion date.

US 26 through Shoshoni will be upgraded by Schneider Construction Inc. of Worland under a $153,000 contract. The work includes changes in both asphalt and concrete pavement sections to meet standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Completion is slated for Aug. 31.
