Braves in the mix for Richardson event title

The Braves are in a close battle in Brigham City, Utah in the annual Richardson Memorial Invitational at Box Elder High School.

With one day now in the books, the Braves have advanced nine wrestlers in eight different weight classes into the semi-finals.

At 103 pounds Star Valley is forcing the action thus far with sophomore Mitchell Heap and freshman Carbon Kennington both advancing into the final four.

Sophomore T.J. Guild is into the semi-finals for the second consecutive event at 119 pounds, as is senior Hayden Heap in the 125 pound weight class.

Also still in the mix for individual championships are Mark Van Slyke at 135, Brandon Anglesey at 160, Nick Edwards at 189, Casey Wolfley at 215 and Adam Walton at 285.

“It’s a very tight race right now,” stated Head Coach Eddie Clark.  “It’s a three-team battle right now with us, Box Elder and Mountain Crest  and it’s probably going to come down to one match or one pin here or there.”

While many tournaments remain, the Braves will be back home on January 27 when they host Green River High School in what will likely be a preview of the top two teams in the 4A West.  All fans of Star Valley athletics are highly encouraged to find their way to SVHS gymnasium that evening to witness a fantastic dual between Wyoming’s top two championship programs in terms of state titles.
