The University of Utah Seismograph Station based in Salt Lake City reports a 4.9 magnitude earthquake on Thursday, April 15, at 5:59 p.m. The quake was located five miles northeast of Randolph, Utah.

The U of U notes the quake occurred on what is known as the Crawford Fault, which is located near the Utah, Wyoming border. While the earthquake was small in comparison to a recent 6.9 magnitude quake in China, it is was considered one of the largest to strike the intermountain region in recent years. A 5.9 quake was reported in St. George in 1992 and the earthquake near Afton in 1994 was estimated at 5.5.

Many people reported feeling the earthquake in the Randolph and northern Utah area, however there was no significant damage reported.
