Accident kills black bear in Yellowstone
By News Release on Jun 21, 2010 in Wyoming
An attempt to capture a young black bear Friday in Yellowstone National Park resulted in the death of the animal, according to park officials.
The small yearling bear had been seen roaming around the Old Faithful area for a couple of weeks. The bear appeared to be injured and blind in one eye, and looked small and malnourished.
The bear was captured for consideration to bring it back to good health and relocation, however the bear made a dash for the door of the cage it was in as as the door was coming down to close. The trap’s door came down on the back of the neck of the animal, killing it instantly.
