Star Valley sweeps Jackson in home openers

The Braves and Lady Braves have had to wait their traditional month to play their first home basketball contests but both squads opened up the home slate with a win over rival Jackson. The Lady Braves were carried by a strong senior performance from Kassie Woodie who finished with 14 points and nine rebounds in a 44-36 victory. It was a well-rounded performance offensively with eight players scoring for the Crimson & Gold. The win snapped a six-game losing streak to the Lady Broncs who are trying to win their fifth straight 3A state title.
As for the Braves, a close first half score of 23-19 was blown open in the third quarter as Star Valley routed the visiting Broncs, 57-31. Nine different players scored, led by Tyson Woodford’s 12 and Josh Hunsaker’s 11. Jake Sims and Clint Rich each pulled down seven rebounds in the effort as well.
The junior varsity girls won 32-16 with the JV boys winning a thriller, 42-41.
