The Star Valley CommUNITY Coalition will host a Ball and Brawl on Saturday, Feb. 5. The event will take place from 8-11 p.m. at the Dana Place in Thayne and is open to couples ages 16 and up.“Its a totally unique  concept in dance entertainment originating right here in Star Valley,” said Corena Ricks of the Star Valley CommUNITY  Coalition. “A Ball and Brawl is what you get when you combine an all-out formal dance with competitive man-games set to macho music.  So ladies, grab your best dress and gussy up. Guys, wear what you want, but be sure to complete your garb with a pair of sneakers.”
In addition to the music, dancing and serious competition, a photo op complete with background will be available.

“We wanted to provide an opportunity for local couples to feel young again, an essential ingredient in keeping a marriage or any relationship alive,” said Ricks. “This event embodies the essence of the high school social experience.  It combines Homecoming (imagine the football player still in his uniform fresh from the game at the evening dance strutting his stuff and ready to catch a pass at any time) and Prom, the ultimate venue for a girl to be reminded just how beautiful she is.”

According to Ricks, the event will cater to the needs of couples of all ages.

“While we women love a good sporty rival ourselves we believe it’s high time we got to dress up to go somewhere and getting to cheer on our man is icing on the cake,” she said. “We know our men aren’t always excited to dance, let alone do it in stiff attire so, we figured if they could wear what they wanted and get in good with some active friendly competition they might be more willing to make an appearance.”

According to Ricks, the evening will include time to slow dance as well as test macho skills.
“So there you have it, soften the lights, snuggle with your sweetheart but be ready because things could get exciting at any time,” Ricks said. “No wallflowers grow here!”

Tickets to the Star Valley Sweetheart Ball and Brawl will go on sale Friday, Jan. 14. The cost is $10 per couple. Tickets will be available at Jenkins Lumber, Etna Trading Company, Thayne True Value, the Jaded Styling Salon and Familee Thriftway.
