The town of Thayne has received notice from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency this month requiring the municipal to chlorinate its water. In a letter from the agency that was reviewed in the town’s monthly council meeting, it was noted that routine samples of water taken earlier this year had tested positive for coliform bacteria. Although it was noted at the meeting that coliform bacteria does not present a health risk the town officials decided to conform to the federal agency’s requirement to chlorinate the community’s water.

About 700 feet of additional floor space was made available by adding a section to the rear of the building, and a complete remodeling job was done on the entire ground floor, inside and out. A new front was installed, ceiling was lowered, new, modern fluorescent lighting was installed, new tiles was laid in the floor, new ceramic tile rest rooms were installed, and all new post office equipment and mail boxes were installed to alleviate box shortage.
